Pick Six ends tourny run in shock
After a 3rd round close game loss to A.P.T.S 20-14 on a last second questionable touchdown pass, The Pick Six was back at it on day two to try and put together another run to make it back into the championship picture at the Ohio States tourny. In a 4th round matchup with Kentuckys Marauders, The Pick Six offense started as fast as humanly possible, scoring on the first play of the game on a half back pass that left the defense for Marauders literaly, stunned. The Pick Six did not let up, after a couple of second half interceptions and a couple more scores, The Pick Six would take a hard earned 18-6 win over Kentuckys Marauders and then advance to the 5th round. The Pick Six would go to the next round to take on Toledos Playmakers. The Pick Six defense shut down Toledos playmakers throughout the entire course of the game until the very end of the second half. The Pick Six led 8-0 the entire game, and then on a 3rd and long, with the Playmakers quarterback out of the game injured, the backup threw up a bomb into the corner of the endzone, and the corner on the play could not adjust in time and Toledo scored the touchdown and was in position to tie the game. The Pick Six then blocked the extra 2 point try keeping an 8-6 lead. After The Pick Six sucessfully withstood an onside kick attempt, is when disaster struck. The Pick Six offense had to simply run the ball a few times to run the clock out, as Toledo had only 1:07 on the clock and 1 timeout. One of the veteran receivers took a pitch to run with, and then he threw an inadvertant pass over the middle thinking the defense was sucked in enough, and it was picked off and taken back to the house for a touchdown. The refs then for whatever reason decided the play took 1:07 and The Pick Six did not get the ball back. The Pick Six ended the tournament run at 3-2 and finished 7th overall out of 31 teams in division D. A big thanks to Corey Sweet and his crew for merging with members of the Pick Six.

The Pick Six had a new look coming into their first tournament together, half of the original squad joining up with former members of Flynns Marauders. The veteran leadership mixed with some energy and youth turned into a very dangerous combination early on in the tournament. Saturday mornings first round contest between The Pick Six and Wise Guys started fast, and ended fast for The Pick Six. The Pick Six got some very steady and at times explosive play from Cowboy Kurt all day long and the group of veteran receivers were possibly the most explosive at the tournament. The Pick Six offense through the first two games scored on every possession but two. Kris Krotkey and Addison Kleoudis, Pick Six originals highlighted the first day of the tournament on defense, each with very impressive interceptions. Kyle Rigsby also a Pick Six original caught a touchdown pass to help seal the win against Big Dog Football.

A few select members of the original cast of The Pick Six have merged with a handful of players from the former Flynn's Marauders. The team after a few weeks of solid practice will be going into the tournament with a 12th seeding. A few of the Flynn players have played with The Pick Six throughout the year randomly, however new team captain Corey Sweet has recruited a few of his old buddys to join up with The Pick Six, adding some much needed depth, experience and talent to the squad. After a few weeks of solid practice The Pick Six will take to the field this coming weekend, November 14th and 15th to try and make some noise against some of the states best division D teams. The original Pick Six members are greatfull to new captain Corey Sweet for the help he gave us during the Fall season in the USFTL, and hopes he will remain with the team to help us out, so we can continue to develope and learn the game. Come out this weekend and support us in the tournament.

Pick Six team members are looking for that Franchise Quarterback to help the team take the next step.

Pick Six huddle back in spring
The Pick Six, a new and young team completed it's first season with a pretty mediocre overall record for the year, finishing at 10-17-1 through 3 seasons, while also going 1-2 at the Obetz tournament in July. Looking back at all the games played, the real sucess and real failure has revolved around the Quarterback for all three Pick Six squads in the USFTL. Each game can be recapped saying that had the Quarterback not thrown interceptions, it would have resulted differently for the Pick Six. Every game since the first game of the spring season, has been won and lost by interceptions. The Pick Six defense only really be blown out in 4 or 5 games of the 28 played this year, and has been put in tough spots all year long due to the Quarterback putting them in that tough spot. It's easy to make a teams scapegoat the Quarterback, but most people will agree, the sucess and failures rely on the Quarterback position. The Pick Six is looking for a franchise Quarterback to help this young team excel through the 2010 year. The RFL winter season will make a great audition for any Quarterbacks hoping to help us next year.

RFL Season ends on a couple of sour notes, and sour calls by the refs!

Somebody tell me how sticking your arm out and clothes lining a defender is legal and should not draw a penalty? Picture this scenario. Down 20-10 and needing a big stop in the 4th quarter, it's 4th and 5 and The Pick Six is out of timeouts completely. Defensive back Cody Ruhlen flys off the corner on a blitz and one of the offensive lineman for Bucknuts who thinks hes in the NFL sticks his arm out and clothes lines Cody because he was too fast for him. Sure enough, both refs did not see the infraction and nothing was called, the Quarterback for Bucknuts then went on to scramble for a first down. Later during the drive defensive back Kyle Rigsby managed to snag an interception but it was with under 20 seconds left and The Pick Six had no timeouts left. The Pick Six would go on to lose 20-10 in a very close and competitive game. Here is another scenario, this time it happened in the playoffs. Late in the 4th quarter again, The Pick Six trailing 16-10 in another tightly contested game against Bucknuts, Quarterback Bryan Mulvany throws a pass to Corey Ruhlen who makes a diving attempt at the catch, the ball his Coreys chest then bounces off the ground and Corey rolled over top of the ball, however the ball (bouncing off the ground) ends up back in the air where it gets picked off out of midair by the defense and the ref calls it an interception. It was very clear, as almost all members of The Pick Six saw this ball hit the ground with Corey on top of it, and yet again The Pick Six would get another interception under 20 seconds left with no timeouts. The Pick Six managed to get to the 19 yard line due to a long pass and a penalty that extended the game. Mulvany then floated a pass into the endzone and it was picked off in a large crowd of people. The Pick Six put up a very solid effort against a fast Bucknuts team, and came up short in a game that very could have easily gone the other way. The Pick Six had some miscues on both sides, driving to the 1 yard line right before halftime in a 10-10 game, only to be denied points after an interception, then giving up a 60 yard touchdown pass on a 4th down and 30. Pick Six will look to bounce back in the Winter, and hopefully those refs get their eyes checked!

Pick Six falls flat in playoffs, too many big plays on defense and lack of leadership at QB.

Picture
The defense was out of it
The Pick Six drew one of the tougher first round opponents they could have drawn, that being the 6-2 DSCC, with a batch of explosive players on both sides of the ball. The Pick Six started the game slow on both sides of the ball and it kept up the entire game. The Pick Six defense allowed too many big plays in the first half and everytime the offense got rolling, a penalty or a dropped pass would set the offense back into the reverse gear. The stamp on the butt whooping came right before half, with no time left on the clock the DSCC quarterback scrambled around avoiding a sack multiple times by evading Addison Kleoudis, he then bombed a pass into the middle of the field and connected with one of his receivers for a 30 yard touchdown pass despite the Pick Six having 7 players in coverage in the endzone. The final score ended up being 19-0 as the Pick Six could not muster any offense. The Pick Six will have to hit the practice fields hard this offseason in hopes to turn around its bad luck first year.
